Drawing our affections for Christ

God gives us blessings and gifts in our lives so we can be drawn closer to Him. Affection is a gentle feeling of fondness or liking for someone. God wants us to love Him and be crazy about Him. Today we can just end up going through the motions and not fully being in love with God and His heart! A person we love more than anyone needs to be God! I think about people I love a lot and what do I do to show that I love them. I write them letters, care about the things they do, hug them, talk to them, spending time with them, going to the things they do and just encouraging them and asking them questions. Sometimes we can get caught up thinking that it is hard to love God because, He is not actually here with us on earth. But that is where faith comes in. There are so many ways to really love God and have a personal relationship with Him. It is so important to make time for Him every day and not just on Sundays. Our lives need to revolve around loving God. There are so many ways to love Him including serving Him but just like people on earth we need to spend time getting to know them like reading the bible and talking to Him.
He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Luke 10:27 NIV).
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:4 NIV).
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, (Deuteronomy 10:12 NIV).
He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” (Revelation 14:7 NIV).
People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. (2 Timothy 3:2-5 NIV).
We can love God by the choices we make, the way we love others, our obedience to Him, and tuning our ears into Him. Loving God is so important and life changing! For me music and awesome christian books that are really from Gods heart can get me on fire for The Lord and more excited and just ready to know Him more! Sometimes those can be a distraction for people and take you away from God but for me that draws me more to Him. Reading the bible makes me closer to God and know more about Him. Sometimes getting to love certain people or do certain things to serve God just draws me closer to His heart because I feel I am really learning about Gods heart and how He created people! Hearing the testimonies of people can really hit my heart in a certain way and realize how much our sin hurts our God. I think for a lot of people hearing a message can really draw you closer to God because you are just learning more about God and you can hear some really powerful scripture and just be challenged in awesome new ways!!
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. (Psalm 119:105, 106, 108 NIV). I just love Psalm 119! Loving God leaves to a life of righteousness. He will direct us to a path of Him and we will be more ready to spread His light when the time comes if we are loving Him. I love waking up and right away praying and digging into the Words He has breathed out for us and for our hearts and lives. Gods word has so much power for our lives. I love being so passionate about God and just ready to fight the world in Him! He is so powerful!!
